French Camp

At Camp Chant d’Oiseau, learning French isn’t a substitute for summer sports and activities–they go hand-in-hand: swimming, archery, soccer, petanque, nature hikes, cooking, arts & crafts are just as much fun when you are learning new vocabulary as you play. French songs & dances and acting out French skits give our campers plenty of opportunity to try out their fluency on a daily basis.

Learning vocabulary and useful expressions while preparing a meal comes so naturally! The utensils, the foods….…Voila! You come home from this summer camp not only speaking French, but you can “faire la cuisine” (prepare a delicious, nutritious meal) for your family and friends....

This is a language immersion experience, but English will be used sparingly to explain a few things. We eat, sleep, sing, dance, play, cook and hike in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia…….Camp Chant d’Oiseau is located on Rt. 219 at the Brazenhead Inn in Mingo, West Virginia, 15 minutes from Snowshoe Ski Resort.

If you're a total beginner, you'll surprise yourself in one week. You'll make a lot of new friends to practice writing in French by letter or e-mail until next year's camp. If you've been studying French, this method will help you retain all you've learned, build your vocabulary base and make you more fluent.
