Rich Mountain Range

Mvc-746s.jpg (26898 bytes) We started our journey up Rich Mountain from the Tygarts Valley on the eastern side of the mountain range.
Once on top, the views are delightful.  This view is looking west from a lovely secluded meadow found on the top of the ridge. Mvc-750s.jpg (25748 bytes)
Mvc-754s.jpg (34069 bytes) Another field gives a breathtaking view looking west across the state.
This is a view of the Town of Elkins.  Here we are looking a little east of north. Mvc-756f.jpg (55820 bytes)
Mvc-758f.jpg (43071 bytes) Another great field looking to the west.
Bruce Hardwoods can be seen in the center of this photo.   Just to the left is one of the many "clear cut" timber areas that seems to adorn the Rich Mountain countryside.  I am sure the company in charge has the interests of the environment in mind, don't you? Mvc-759f.jpg (55105 bytes)
Mvc-761f.jpg (49106 bytes) Here is a shot of the Beverly area from high atop Rich Mountain.
From the same vantage point on the mountain we look to the south east towards Mill Creek and Huttonsville. Mvc-764f.jpg (28688 bytes)
Mvc-765f.jpg (101203 bytes) The road is a little rough at spots, but basically good.   Unfortunately, it is hard to get around on the ridge these days with so many gates put up by lumber companies.  It is too bad, but I am sure they have their good reasons.
The Rich Mountain firetower.  Remember when you could walk up the steps to the top?  The steps looked pretty rotten so I wouldn't advise it today. Mvc-766f.jpg (70251 bytes)
